1.5.1.1 Task pane

Getting Started

To access the Comps Builder Task Pane, navigate to the PrivateMetrics tab in the Ribbon Toolbar of Excel.

Click on the Comps Builder menu item and if you are logged in, it opens up the landing page, where the user can select infraMetrics® Comparables to open the task pane and begin setting up your comparative analysis.

Overview

The Task Pane allows users to create and manage comparative analysis (comps) on financial metrics using InfraMetrics® data. This tool is integrated into Excel and provides a dynamic interface to select metrics, customize filters, and execute queries for detailed financial analysis.

Features

Based on the selected asset type, if the user wants to load a template for the asset type Comparables Custom function without using the task pane, they can click on the link “Load an Example”. This will load a template with all the fields and sample values. The computed comparables with all the return values are included along with their description. The users can then add/update the values to calculate the new comparables.

  1. Asset Type Selection: Choose between "Equity" or "Debt" to filter the type of data. By default, the asset type is set to “Equity”.

  2. Metric Selection: Use the dropdown to select the desired financial metric (e.g., EV to EBITDA, IRR, etc.).

  3. Date and Age Filtering:

    • Value Date: Choose a specific end date and window (in years) to set a cutoff for the data.

    • Age: Define the age of data in months.

  4. Geography Segments

    • Define geographic filters.

  5. TICCS® Profile:

    • Define TICCS® (Taxonomy of Infrastructure Capital Classification Standards) filters.

    • Use the "Add more" option to include additional TICCS® pillars or subclasses.

  6. Risk Profiles:

    • Select factors such as size, profitability, leverage, etc.

    • Choose between Quintile and Factor Value for each risk factor to filter data more precisely.

  7. Return Value: Choose the statistical operation (e.g., Mean, Median, Min, Max) to apply to the selected data.

  8. Query and Reset:

    • Query: Executes the query based on the selected filters and displays the results on the Excel sheet.

    • Reset: Clears all selections and resets the form to its default state.

  9. Advanced Options Selections:

    • Expand Advance Options Sections to change the currency (USD, EUR, GBP) for the chosen metrics.

Step-by-Step Usage

  1. Start: Select "Equity" or "Debt."

  2. Choose Metrics: Click on the "Select Metric" dropdown to choose from available financial metrics.

  3. Set Date or Age: Choose the link “Switch to Age“ or "Switch to value dates" to set the time period to filter data.

  4. Define Geography Segments

    • Click on "Select Geography" to filter data by Regions, Sub-regions, and Countries.

    • To edit or delete, click the respective icons next to the chosen geographies.

  5. Define TICCS® Segments:

    • Click on "Select TICCS® Segments" to filter data by TICCS® classification.

    • To edit or delete, click the respective icons next to the chosen filter.

    • Use "Add more" to add additional criteria.

  6. Configure Risk Profiles:

    • Select factors from the dropdown.

    • Choose the link “Switch to Factor Value“ or "Switch to Quintiles" to adjust the settings to use either Quintile or Factor Value for more specific filtering.

  7. Choose Return Value Operation: Select an operation like Mean, Median, etc., from the dropdown.

  8. Execute Query: Click "Query" to generate results.

  9. Reset Form: Click "Reset" to clear all inputs.

  10. Advanced Options: Choose your preferred currency from the dropdown.

Smart Controls

  • Editing Selections: Click the pencil icon to modify the existing filters.

  • Deleting Selections: Click the trash can icon next to each criterion to remove it.

  • Adding More TICCS® Segments: Use the "Add More" button to add new criteria for a more refined analysis.

Steps to compute Comps

  1. Select Metric: EV to EBITDA

  2. Set Date: Value Date as "Wed Jul 31, 2024."

  3. Apply Geographic Segments filters.

  4. Apply TICCS® Segments filters. Add "Industrial Activity: Power Generation x-Renewables" and "Business Risk: Merchant."

  5. Set Risk Profiles: Select "Size" and adjust using Quintile.

  6. Choose Return Value: Select "Mean."

  7. Execute Query: Click on "Query" to retrieve the data.

  8. Advanced Options: By Default currency is set to USD. To change, expand the Advanced Options pane and select the desired currency from the dropdown.

  9. If all the data is in order, then the calculated Comp will be displayed in the Excel sheet.

This functionality is particularly useful for building comparative analysis models in finance, assessing risk profiles, and making data-driven investment decisions.
